Most forget that the great wines of Pomerol in Bordeaux, France are close to 100% Merlot. Wines like Le Pin & Chateaux Petrus that sell for thousand of rand per bottle.

We have produced a Merlot every year since our start in 1992. Inspired by working in St. Emilion in Bordeaux in 1989 and the fact that some of our clay rich soils are ideally suited to the variety. We usually add a touch of Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon, but mostly find the wine to be very complete on its own.

About half the grapes are grown on our own home vineyard and the balance from our neighbour, Keermont, on similar soil.

Our Merlots age extremely well and our last bottle of 1992 was still drinking well in 2017. We try and release the wine at around 5 years old, close to optimum drinking and most vintages should continue to develop well up to 12-15 years.
